Do you know that there are ways you can help avoid coughs, colds and bugs in winter time ?

What are the best preventive things you can do? Want our opinion? Well, as usual we have a few tips for you!

  1. Eat fresh fruits and veggies in abundance – Fruits especially the berries (blueberries, blackberries, cherries, strawberries) are naturally high in vitamin C, bioflavonoids and antioxidants. These all help with your immunity levels. Other sources are apricots, peppers, kiwi fruit and broccoli. There is considerable evidence that Vitamin C (also called ascorbic acid) plays a vital role in many immune mechanisms. Infection rapidly depletes the normal levels of vitamin C.  You need to take a supplement if you don’t eat enough of fresh fruits and veggies.
  2. Vitamin D. We need sun on our skin for our main source of vitamin D, so our levels usually go down in winter, so many of us can become deficient in vitamin D over the winter because even when outdoors with some skin exposed, very little vitamin D is produced due to the angle of the sun during the winter months. A daily dose of vitamin D3 in supplements form can therefore help to fortify the immune system through the colder months.
  3. Ginseng and Echinacea are great herbs for the healthier immune system, which stimulate the overall activity of the cells responsible for fighting all kinds of infection.
  4. Zinc is essential for the immune system and healing. Enjoy seafood (especially oysters) and nuts and seeds (especially pumpkin and sunflower seeds).
  5. Raw honey has great health benefits. Enjoy it to stay healthy. Put a spoon in your porridge in a morning!
  6. Exercise – even when it’s cold, still try to walk 30 minutes a day or go to the gym. Exercise is another way to help your immunity.
  7. Sleep minimum 8 hours at night as poor sleep and insomnia can affect our immune system, so make sure you get plenty of rest.
